Snook's Harbour

Snook’s Harbour as it is known today is made up of a combination of people who settled in the area yet were known as separate communities. In the 19th century, written documents show Souley’s Brook and Wake’s Brook as separate communities while at other times they are considered part of Snook’s Harbour. These communities eventually became known as Snook’s Harbour. There were a number of settlers who came here, but it was two brothers, James and John Baker who were believed to be the first to settle there. Yet the name Snook's Harbour probably came from a family who settled there during the winter months.Snook’s Harbour residents worked at local fish factories and sawmills located within their community. There was also a brickyard located at Souley’s Brook where many of the residents worked.

Presently, Snook’s Harbour is a small community that is an ideal setting for those who enjoy a quiet lifestyle. The community nestled around the waters of Smith Sound, allow residents the opportunity for a quiet walk through the countryside or easy access to a day on the bay. Snook’s Harbour, located just minutes from Clarenville, utilizes the services of the larger center for banking, medical and shopping needs.
