Tourist Information

Random Island is the largest coastal island in Newfoundland and serves as the geographic center of the Random North region. Stretching from Burgoyne's Cove to Clarenville and all communities in between, Random North covers a very large area and has plenty to show for it. Watch and marvel at the magnificent power and beauty of the Bald Eagle. These awesome creatures may often be sighted flying over Random Island and perched on rocks along the harbour's edge. As you travel throughout Smith Sound and Random Island, you may catch sight of a moose, bear, fox, eagle, caribou, seal, or whale. Visit the community of Petley where you can take a boat tour to resettled communities that have now been reclaimed by nature. Even though in 1952 the Hefferton causeway joined Random Island to Shoal Harbour, you can still take a glimpse into the past.
